Pilonidal Cysts
A Pilonidal Cyst is an abnormal growth near the tailbone composed of hair and skin.
While very common, and easy to treat, if left untreated a Pilonidal Cyst can get infected causing pain and itchiness.
Symptoms
When a Pilonidal Cyst becomes infected it can cause:
- Pain
- Inflamed or sensitive skin
- Pus and foul-smelling drainage from the infected area
If you or a loved one experiences these symptoms it is time to see a medical professional.
Diagnosis
A Pilonidal Cyst can be easily diagnosed through a physical examination from your doctor.
Treatment
After diagnosis, Pilonidal Cysts can usually be treated that same day. Your doctor will numb the infected area and drain the cyst of pus and blood. After drainage, the cyst usually will heal on its own as long as it is kept dry and clean.
If your Cyst requires you to return for further treatment, your doctor may recommend surgery in order to have the cyst removed entirely.
While Pilonidal Cysts can be irritating and painful, treatment is very safe and effective. If you or a loved one is suffering from an infected Pilonidal Cyst, contact a medical professional
